The Association of Pet Dog Trainers Ireland (APDT Ireland) is a non-profit organisation that promotes the use of force-free and reward based dog training techniques. Established in 2010 we are a of group dog trainers, behaviourists, and veterinary professionals who are dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and their owners. APDT Ireland offers various educational resources and training programs to dog owners and trainers, including workshops, seminars, and conferences. We also provides a directory of certified trainers who use only positive training methods to help dog owners find qualified professionals to work with. We are committed to promoting ethical and humane treatment of dogs, and we strive to educate the public about responsible dog ownership. We firmly believe that dogs are important members of the family and that they should be treated with kindness, respect, and patience.
At APDT Ireland, our mission is to set a national standard of excellence for dog training professionals while fostering a strong, positive bond between dogs and their humans. We are dedicated to promoting reward-based, science-led training methods that prioritise canine welfare, compassion, and clear communication. Through education, advocacy, and rigorous membership standards, we ensure that every APDT Ireland trainer upholds ethical, force-free practices grounded in modern behavioural science. Whether you're a dog owner seeking guidance or a trainer committed to ongoing professional development, APDT Ireland stands for trust, transparency, and the shared goal of helping dogs thrive.
At APDT Ireland, our vision is a future where every dog is trained with kindness, understanding, and respect. We are committed to promoting ethical dog training practices that never rely on pain, fear, or intimidation. That means no choke chains, prong collars, electric shock devices, or punitive techniques — ever. Our members use positive reinforcement–based methods, rooted in the latest science of animal learning and behaviour. We believe that training should not only be effective, but also support your dog’s emotional well-being and build lasting trust between you and your canine companion. Your dog’s welfare isn’t just important to us — it’s our top priority.

Cillian is excellent. He is so patient and knowledgeable on what to do, we saw progress after the first session and have the tools now to continue it. Would definitely recommend the training for anyone thinking of doing it, well worth it!

We found Emmaline very helpful and we would highly recommend her to others. We realised straight away that Emmaline was very experienced. She quickly identified several really helpful techniques that we could put into practice immediately. The behaviour of our dogs (and ourselves!) improved after one session. Thanks to Emmaline we feel much more confident.

Donna is fantastic with dogs. We could see huge improvements with our dog using her training after only a few days. She included the kids in the training and made it fun for them and the dog.

It has been amazing working with Canine Connect this year. We attended the Puppy classes with our dog Ruby and learned so much. The classes were small so we were able to learn so much and get tailored feedback and advice for Ruby whenever we needed. Thanks for all your support!
